The

Experience

Baldwin Wallace Music Theatre is a boutique program housed in the Conservatory of Music at Baldwin Wallace University. Each year, we welcome around 20 students to begin the rigorous training to become creative, original, intuitive, and dynamic artists. Over the course of four years, students will have the opportunity to participate in 12 fully produced musicals, 8 semesters of music theatre workshop classes, 30 master classes with top New York casting directors/agents, 120 hours of individualized private voice lessons, and over 400 hours of intense ballet boot camp. Students' time at BWMT culminates with their senior showcase in NYC, attended by more than 200 industry professionals, that has resulted in the majority of students signing with representation for the past 10 years.

Master

Classes

Starting their sophomore year, students perform for 10 casting directors/agents that BWMT welcomes to campus every year for its master class series. At the culmination of their time at BWMT, students will have participated in 30 master classes, forging valuable connections with the NY industry, and receiving direct feedback from the casting directors who will be hiring them as soon as they graduate.

Professional

Partnerships

BWMT is an integral member of both the local and national theatre scene. Partnering with leading companies while still in school helps ensure more working opportunities after graduation, and allows our students to collaborate with professional actors and directors from all over the country.

Audition

Technique

Audition Technique is taught as part of the Music Theatre Workshop sequence in the sophomore year. In addition to mastering the art of the in-person audition, students learn the finer points of self-taped and Zoom auditions, giving them the ability to make their videos pop out over the competition. Every spring, BWMT welcomes ten regional/summer stock theatres to campus, giving all students the chance to audition directly for each company. This results in dozens of summer contracts for students every year.

Real World

Preparation

BWMT students take care of business.  Multiple entrepreneurship classes taken alongside Arts Management Majors teach website creation, personal branding, money management and self care. Our goal is to help students be ready for life as a music theatre professional in the real world.

Outside of the classroom, all auditions and rehearsals are run by Actor's Equity Association rules, so students know how these processes work before they venture out into the real world.

Showcase

All senior MTs perform in each year in the New York City Showcase at New World Stages. Over 200 industry professionals, including agents, managers, casting directors, modeling agencies, and TV/film studios attend each year. For the past decade, the majority of students have obtained representation following the showcase.
